What to eat right before a workout?

Fitness is of crucial importance these days. While scheduling workout sessions every day is of utmost importance, it is also essential to consume a balanced and healthy diet to keep you going for long with good health.

When should you eat?

One can not ignore the fact that to work out properly; it is necessary to eat well. On the contrary, doing work out or exercise on a full stomach is not good and will do more harm; for example, you may get nauseous, experience cramps, and sometimes even get an upset stomach. Hence, it would be best if you gave your stomach enough time to digest food so that you can get the maximum amount of energy without getting uncomfortable. 

The effectiveness of exercise also depends on the type and quantity of food you have consumed. On average, it takes around one to four hours. However, every person’s digestive system is unique; hence no fixed time interval can be selected between eating and working out. You know your body the best. Therefore, you should identify the amount of time your body takes to digest food and then give it that amount of time before working out. In case your workout schedule fits best in the morning, make sure you get up well in advance so that you can eat as well as take a break before starting to work out. 

What should you eat?

Before working out, your body needs carbohydrates so that it gets the energy to exercise. Glucose is the richest source of carbohydrates, and hence foods like Pasta, fruits, bread, or energy bars should be your pre-workout meal choices. If you need to have a full meal, keep a gap of at least 4 hours between eating and working out. If you are looking to snack, in that case, a gap of two to three hours should be enough, while if you are going to consume only fluids, an interval of one hour is ideal. Other options to be tried out before working out

If you are looking to increase your stamina, you can eat foods that are rich in sugar, like candy bars, about half an hour before you begin working out. It will give your muscles the boost that they need. Be careful to consume this in an appropriate quantity as excess sugar tends to decrease muscular activity. You can also eat fatty foods before starting your fitness regime.
